Save the Children's Programme

Save the Children is working in Eje Cafetero (The Coffee Axis) with children, parents, teachers and local government to enable all children to go to school, especially those who have been forced to leave their homes because of poverty or conflict.

Providing access to education in its principal form involves removing the barriers that often prevent children from attending school, such as admission procedures. Save the Children also works towards improving the standard of education in target schools by training teachers.

Education is only effective when it is taught to a high standard, useful and relevant to children's lives. Overall Save the Children is working with the local education authorities to strengthen education policies, increase funding, and create the awareness in communities - so they demand both education for all and high standards of education. Save the Children also supports students to speak out about their problems, and bring the whole community into the management of the school, and improve school facilities.

School

"I am happy to study and live here. I really prefer the coffee farm because in the town where we used to live, life was very hard and I couldn't go to school".
