Improving Standards

Save the Children is also providing both training for teachers to improve standards in Alexander and Jhon's school that will prevent them and others leaving school. Raising standards also means that learning is more stimulating and they will pass their schoolwork and the school is more welcoming and enjoyable.

Teachers and the education authority will also be supported to ensure that the hardest to reach children go to school - whether they are able to pay or not. Save the Children will promote the involvement of children and communities - so they demand more for their schools, such as making them more welcoming, providing more resources, and they benefit from better quality education that emphasises relevance, learning and participation.

Save the Children is also helping families with birth registration so they can enrol children into schools. We are also looking at flexible learning methods; so working children don't miss out.

The essential principle is helping children to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will be useful throughout their lives - that helps to break the cycle of poverty and violence & gives them opportunities for their future.

"If I study I can develop myself and obtain good work. Also, my teacher says that we should study hard, because then we would be good people."
